Russia’s 5th Column Speaks Out! Liberal Opposition Leaders Thank America for Russia Sanctions (Russian TV News)
by Vesti[field_author_has_account_] (1,641 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
Transcript: On Thanksgiving eve some Russian oppositionists decided to personally thank the US authorities for the sanctions against Russia. They met them in Washington, but instead of the traditional turkey, the guests offered senators and State Department officials to check out their lists of Russians who deserve to be sanctioned. They believe they’re doing it to finally make Russia a civilized country. However, so far, the civilizers can’t handle themselves. The former lawyer of Pussy Riot, Mark Feygin, pushed our crew out from the elevator. – Did you give them the list? Did you manage to do that? Mark Feygin: We did. Everything went just fine.

Trump Should Let Russia Help Him Get out of Afghanistan
by MK Bhadrakumar Indian Punchline[field_author_has_account_] (709 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
Surely, the recent Moscow conference on Afghanistan (November 9) brought to light that the peace talks will get a big fillip if the US and Russia work in tandem. (See my column in SCF titled US Can Avoid Afghan Quagmire with Russia’s Help, Nov 15, 2018.) Everything depends on the Trump administration reversing course and accepting a Russian role. But this will have to be a political decision at the highest level in the White House. So far, President Trump has left it to the Pentagon commanders to pursue his Afghan strategy. But the strategy to weaken the Taliban to the point they would sue for peace is simply unworkable and is counterproductive.

Russia’s State-Run Health Care Isn’t All That It’s Cracked up to Be
by Anatoly Karlin The Unz Review[field_author_has_account_] (873 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
A couple of months ago, I made an acquaintance with a provincial carpenter. This was rather convenient, since I would soon need to furnish my new apartment. I could either get a good quality but MDF-based factory made bed for around $300, or I could pay him $500 and get a very high quality bed (with drawers) made out of solid wood for $500, with a tabletop for my planned electric table thrown in for free. Why not, let’s support the artisanal economy. He said it would be ready within a couple of weeks.

Gazprom Plots Gas Pipelines to Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia
by The Moscow Times[field_author_has_account_] (1,121 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
Russia’s Gazprom gas giant is developing plans to extend a multibillion-dollar gas pipeline to four south and central European countries via Turkey, Russian media have reported. Turkish Stream, or TurkStream, is part of Moscow’s efforts to bypass Ukraine as a gas transit route to Europe, which imports around a third of its gas needs from Gazprom. Construction of its offshore part was completed earlier this week. TurkStream gas will travel from Turkey to Bulgaria, then Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia, Russia’s Kommersant business daily reported Thursday, citing data published by the countries’ transmission operators. The Bulgarian and Serbian route will reportedly go online in 2020, followed by Hungary in 2021 and Slovakia in mid-2022.

Russia Wants Bulgarians to Stop Painting Soviet Monuments to Look Like Comic-Book Superheroes
by The Moscow Times[field_author_has_account_] (1,017 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
According to a report by the Moscow Times, pranksters in Bulgaria are repainting Soviet-era monuments so that Soviet military heroes look like American Superheroes. Needless to say, Russians are not too happy about it: Russia is demanding that Bulgaria try harder to prevent vandalism of Soviet monuments, after yet another monument to Soviet troops in Sofia was spray-painted, ITAR-Tass reported.

Death of GRU Chief Sends Western Media and Pundits Into Tailspin of Conspiracy Theories
by RT[field_author_has_account_] (1,143 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
Korobov died « after a long and serious illness, » the Defense Ministry announced on Thursday. Various sources have informed media outlets that this illness was cancer. There had also been rumors of illness circulating in Russian media in recent months. As the news broke, however, Western media, journalists and pundits wasted no time in deciding that this explanation for Korobov’s death simply could not be true. Generously, many began to offer up their own suspicions as alternative possibilities – and they pulled no punches.

Turkey Partners With Russia to Bury Saudi Arabia
by Pepe Escobar Asia Times[field_author_has_account_] (3,217 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
It was packaged as a stark, graphic message, echoing across Eurasia: Presidents Erdogan and Putin, in a packed hall in Istanbul on Monday, surrounded by notables, celebrating completion of the 930 kilometer-long offshore section of the TurkStream gas pipeline across the bottom of the Black Sea. This is no less than a key landmark in that fraught terrain I named ‘Pipelineistan’ in the early 2000s. It was built by Gazprom in only two and a half years despite facing massive pressure from Washington, which had already managed to derail TurkStream’s predecessor, South Stream.

Russian Federation SITREP — November 22, 2018
by Patrick Armstrong Russia Observer[field_author_has_account_] (1,080 views) on Fri, Nov 23, 2018
VICTORY! I’ve been waiting a decade for Washington to explain that the Ossetia war was actually a triumph for it. And here it is at last. American efforts resulted in “the Russians withdrawing to their start positions.” Well, they never intended to occupy Georgia. The same official then creatively blames Assad for “producing” ISIS. A complete echo chamber of delusion.
