More Than Any Other Country Russia Is Determined Never to Have a Repeat of WWI
by Nikolas K. Gvosdev The National Interest[field_author_has_account_] (658 views) on Mon, Nov 12, 2018
On November 11, the world will acknowledge the 100 th anniversary of the armistice that ended the carnage that was the First World War. That date, however, doesn’t resonate in Russia. A far more significant moment on the calendar that just passed—the anniversary of the Bolshevik seizure of power—was similarly marginalized last year when the centennial of the October Revolution was largely ignored by the Russian government and Russian society as a whole. Current Russia sees little to celebrate or reminisce about the events of a century ago.

German FM Urges Trump to Preserve Arms Control With Russia With Der Spiegel Essay
by Vladimir Kozin Oriental Review[field_author_has_account_] (456 views) on Mon, Nov 12, 2018
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has published an article in Der Spiegel magazine proposing a rethink of arms control measures to preserve peace in Europe. He points out that new technologies are being used to create weapons and that the line between nuclear and conventional weapons is becoming blurred, before going on to criticise the deployment of Russian missiles in Kaliningrad, although he does not provide any evidence to support his claim and admits that their deployment is not in violation of the INF Treaty.

by RT[field_author_has_account_] (910 views) on Mon, Nov 12, 2018
Russia says it’s trying to ease sanctions on North Korea to make aid organisations’ work there possible. The US says it won’t let that happen. Following a closed-door UN security council meeting this Thursday requested by Russia and China, US ambassador Nikki Haley told press members that Russia is trying “to lift banking restrictions” against North Korea, an option which she says is off the table: “So now we know what their agenda is, we know exactly why they’re trying to do it and we’re not going to let it happen.”

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn; At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them. — Laurence Binyon, World War I When I was at school in Scotland, very many years ago, we learned about the First World War from a distinguished historian who enjoyed enlivening his instruction with little anecdotes. Supposedly they had landed by troopship in northern Scotland and were being transported south by train and people knew they were Russians “because they had snow on their boots.”
